Bioinformatics Core Trainings Module
The Bioinformatics Core Trainings Module of the KTP focus on providing various types of trainings (redcurrant, specialized, online and hands on) in bioinformatics and bioinformatics applications to Health Sciences and Agri-BioTech for African scientists and researchers. This complimentary supplements of "bioinformatics" trainings are only offered to the KTP members. Feel free to propose training topics that might be of interest to you via our contact page: http://ktp.cpgr.org.za/contact-us/.
Description: Bioinformatics and computational biology are two related disciplines that have developed from the need to analyze and interpret large, complex datasets which have emerged in the last decade as genomics, proteomics, systems biology, and other high-throughput approaches have become more feasible. Bioinformatics and computational biology utilize techniques from applied mathematics, informatics, statistics, and computer science to solve biological problems. Major research efforts in the field include sequence alignment, gene finding, genome assembly, protein structure alignment, protein structure prediction, prediction of gene expression and protein- protein interactions, and the modeling of evolution.
